Accompany, pray for, and support vocations
Seminarians need our collaboration
The Church, throughout the centuries, has never lacked vocations to the ministerial priesthood. Some periods were more fruitful and others less. But today the question arises: Is the ministerial priesthood really necessary? The answer is clear: Yes!
Priests are needed so that the message of Christ and His presence in the Sacraments may continue shaping the history of salvation in humanity and in the People of God of all ages.
We cannot measure vocations by quantity compared with past decades. Complaints are useless. What matters is to look with the eyes of Christ, go out to evangelize and go on mission even to small communities. Perhaps the time has come to restore small communities, to be leaven, even if it is a small leaven. As Jesus reminds us:
“The Kingdom of Heaven is like leaven that a woman took and mixed with three measures of flour, until it was all leavened” (Mt 13:33)
Each Christian, living in the world without losing his nature, draws people to the Lord by his example and his word.
Example and witness transform lives
Many times social movements and cultural trends do not facilitate a Gospel way of life, but that must not prevent us from showing that the Christian life is the best inheritance we can offer. Example and witness make an impression on those who observe us. Saint Augustine lived it this way:
Si isti et istae, cur non ego?” (If these men and women have done it, why not me?)
It was the testimony of his companions that made him reflect, abandon a dissolute and superficial life, and joyfully embrace the Gospel life, becoming a priest and, in time, a Bishop.
Today the same happens: the witness of life attracts vocations. That is why we must encourage families, consecrated persons, priests, and all the faithful of the People of God to live the following of Jesus radically.
Many seminarians tell us about their experience:
-
“I met a priest whose life fascinated me, and I considered living like him.”
-
“In my family we prayed together every day, and reading the Gospel I felt the call to be a priest.”
-
“I saw religious sisters caring for those most in need and I wanted to be like them.”
-
“One day I felt an emptiness after a party, I entered a church and experienced a deep joy. Now I am a cloistered nun.”
-
“Life in community awakened my dedication to the priesthood.”
When one lives from the sources of God’s Love, the vocational call attracts like a magnet.
How we can collaborate
Vocation is born when one listens to God in interior silence and in daily prayer. Therefore, the first step is
to pray for seminarians, even naming specific persons: a young man in your family, a friend, a parish companion… Make your prayer personal and persistent.
Then, invite young people to dare to consider their vocation. Show them the beauty of following Christ, share stories of generosity and self-giving, and accompany them with example and prayer.
But collaboration does not end in prayer. We can also support their formation financially.
Today it is easy and safe to do so through

Each contribution, large or small, helps form future priests, ensure their well-being, and sustain their mission of service to all of us. With your prayer and your collaboration, we help the seed of vocation to grow and bear abundant fruit. God will reward us for every effort and every generous gesture!
